Remote commands and sync
Launch, stop, lock or restart a booth remotely, and understand how events and designs are synced.
Remote commands
From app.boothx.org, on the My booths › your booth › Remote commands page, you can act on a booth without being next to it.
| Command | Effect |
|---|---|
| Launch “Event name” | The booth launches the chosen event. |
| Stop the event | The booth leaves the event and returns to its home screen. A session in progress is interrupted. |
| Lock the booth | Shows the lock screen; a running event is stopped first. |
| Unlock the booth | Leaves the lock screen without entering the code. |
| Restart the software | BoothX closes, then relaunches on the booth. A session in progress is interrupted. |
Commands that interrupt guests ask for confirmation.
Lock the booth is refused if no PIN or pattern is set on the booth: without a code, locking wouldn't protect anything.
Tracking a command
The History lists the latest commands sent, with their status:
- Pending: the command is waiting for the booth to pick it up;
- Received: the booth has received it;
- Done: the booth has carried it out;
- Failed: the booth couldn't carry it out (the message explains why);
- Expired: the booth didn't reconnect in time.
A command sent to an offline booth expires if the booth doesn't reconnect within 15 minutes: there's no risk of a booth locking or restarting unexpectedly the next day.
How long does a command take to arrive?
An online booth receives commands in real time: a few seconds at most. If the real-time link isn't available (filtered network), the booth regularly checks for pending commands, and the command arrives with a little more delay.
The booth's cloud status button shows the mode: Real time or Periodic sync.
Syncing events
When the booth is linked to an account:
- an event created or changed on the booth is sent to the panel;
- an event created or changed on the panel arrives on the booth;
- a design changed on one side arrives on the other (“Design updated from the BoothX panel.”);
- settings profiles follow the same path (see Synced settings profiles).
Offline, changes wait for the network to come back. Nothing is lost.
Simultaneous changes
If a design is changed on the panel while you are editing it in the booth's editor, the editor warns you: “This design was changed on the panel: your current edits replace it.” To avoid surprises, edit a design in only one place at a time.
Force a sync
On the booth, the cloud status button (top right) offers Sync now. It also shows the last sync (“3 min ago”) and any Error.
Remote best practices
- Before stopping an event remotely, check on the overview that no session is in progress.
- For rental companies: lock the booth remotely at the end of the rental, before pickup.
- A client locked out by the code: Unlock the booth gets them going without giving them your code.
- The booth is acting up: Restart the software fixes most freezes; then relaunch the event.
