Live photo wall
Set up the photo wall's second screen
Connect the screen, give it the wall role, set the resolution and orientation, and check everything before opening.
Mode being rolled out. Depending on your version of BoothX, the wall screen is assigned either from the wall itself or from Settings › Screens.
The photo wall is shown on a dedicated screen connected to the booth's computer. This article describes the setup step by step.
1. Connect the screen
- Connect the screen (TV, monitor, projector) to an HDMI or DisplayPort output on the computer.
- Turn it on and select the right source (HDMI 1, HDMI 2…) with its remote.
- Check that the system sees the screen: it should appear in the display settings of Windows, macOS or Linux, in extended mode (not duplicated).
On a laptop, the video output is sometimes turned on with a function key: choose Extend.
2. Identify the screens in BoothX
Open Settings › Screens and click Identify: each screen shows a large number. Note the number of the big screen. See Use multiple screens.
3. Assign the screen to the wall
Choose the wall screen among the detected screens. Depending on your version:
- from the photo wall itself (choice of display screen);
- or from Settings › Screens, by giving each screen a role.
A typical setup:
| Screen | Role |
|---|---|
| Booth touchscreen | Guests: the photobooth. |
| Computer screen (if only you can see it) | Administration: BoothX, moderation. |
| Big screen in the room | Photo wall. |
The wall can't share the guest screen: it needs its own screen.
4. Resolution and orientation
- Resolution: keep the screen's native resolution (often Full HD or 4K). On a modest computer, 4K resolution can slow down the animations: switch the screen to Full HD in the system settings.
- Orientation: a portrait (vertical) screen shows off photo strips and portraits; a landscape screen suits grid scrolling. BoothX can rotate the screen without touching the system settings.
- Scaling: if a TV crops the edges of the image (“overscan”), turn it off in the TV's picture settings (the option is often called “Full pixel”, “Just scan” or “1:1”).
5. Launch the wall
- Launch the event on the guest screen.
- Open the wall and start the display on the chosen screen.
- Run a test session: the photo should appear on the wall a few moments after it's confirmed (or in the moderation queue if moderation is on).
The wall and locking
During the event, the wall screen accepts no input: guests can't touch or close anything on it. If the wall screen is a touchscreen, touch input is ignored. Booth locking applies as usual to the other screens. See Locking with a PIN or pattern.
Projector
- Position it so that nobody walks through the beam (on the ceiling or up high).
- A dark room is needed for a readable image: a photo wall projected in daylight looks washed out.
- Use a light, plain wall or a screen.
Checklist before opening
- Screen in extended mode, detected by BoothX.
- Wall role assigned to the right screen (Identify button).
- Orientation and resolution checked, no cropped edges.
- Test session: the photo shows up on the wall.
- Screen and computer sleep turned off (see Power, sleep and auto-recovery).
- Cables taped to the floor so nobody trips.
Common problems
- The wall appears on the wrong screen: run Identify again; the screen order sometimes changes when a cable is unplugged.
- Black screen or “No signal”: wrong source on the TV, faulty cable or incompatible adapter.
- The image flickers or cuts out: HDMI extension cable too long or of poor quality.
