Videobooth
Record a video message
Countdown, maximum duration, tap to stop, playback and videobooth settings.
Mode being rolled out. Depending on your version of BoothX, some of the settings described here may not be available yet.
How a message is recorded
- Preview: the guest sees themselves on screen, mirrored, as in a mirror. They can take their time to get into position.
- Start: they tap the screen (or the record button).
- Countdown: a few seconds to get ready, 3 seconds by default.
- Recording: a progress bar shows the time remaining. Recording stops on its own at the maximum duration.
- Early stop: the guest can tap the screen to finish sooner.
- End: the message is saved in the event folder, and the booth is ready for the next guest.
The preview is mirrored so that the guest can position themselves naturally.
Settings
| Setting | Values | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Countdown | a few seconds, 3 s by default | 3 s is enough: the guest has already seen their image during the preview. |
| Maximum duration | 15 s, 30 s or 1 min | 30 s is the right compromise: long enough for a real message, short enough not to create a line. |
A 15 s duration suits a trade show or a corporate event with lots of foot traffic; 1 min suits a small wedding where every message counts.
Sound
Sound is recorded if a microphone is available and allowed. Otherwise, the message is recorded without sound and BoothX tells you. Before the event, record a test message and play it back: check that the voice comes through clearly over the music in the room.
The booth's background music is muted during recording, then fades back in.
File format
Messages are saved as MP4 (H.264 video, AAC audio), a format that plays everywhere: computer, phone, TV, social media. A 30-second message weighs a few dozen megabytes depending on the webcam: plan for disk space for a large event.
Playing back a message
Right after recording, or later from the video gallery, you can play back a message to check the framing and sound. See Video gallery and guestbook playback.
Guest screen
Eventually, the videobooth will be displayed locked in full screen on the guest screen, like the photobooth, with its own welcome and thank-you screens. In the meantime, launch it from your screen and leave the booth under a host's supervision, or lock down other access with kiosk mode.
Common problems
- Black preview: another app is using the webcam (video call, manufacturer's software). Close it, then reopen the videobooth.
- No sound: check the microphone permission in the system settings, and that the right microphone is selected as the default input device.
- Choppy image: lower the webcam's resolution in its software, close heavy apps, connect the webcam to a USB 3 port.
- Several webcams: BoothX uses the system's default webcam. Choosing the webcam in BoothX is coming soon.
