Settings
Performance: GPU, rendering and preview smoothness
GPU acceleration, rendering API, preferred graphics card and camera preview frame rate.
The Settings › Performance section controls how BoothX uses the graphics card. The default values suit most computers: only change them if you have a display problem or want to save battery.
New graphics engine settings take effect the next time you start the app: click Relaunch BoothX in the banner that appears.
GPU acceleration
- Enabled: hardware rendering by the graphics card. Smooth and light on the processor. Recommended.
- Disabled: software rendering by the processor, for troubleshooting. Try it if the screen stays black, flickers or shows artifacts, for example with an old graphics driver.
Rendering API
The graphics interface used to draw the screen:
- Automatic (recommended): BoothX picks the best one for your system;
- Direct3D 11, Direct3D 12, Vulkan, OpenGL (depending on the system);
- Metal on macOS.
Unavailable with software rendering. If the chosen API can't start on the computer, BoothX automatically falls back to automatic mode and tells you: you're never left with a black screen.
Preferred graphics card
On computers with two graphics cards (laptops with integrated and dedicated graphics):
- Automatic: Windows decides for each use;
- Power saving: the integrated graphics card, for battery life;
- High performance: the dedicated graphics card, for smoothness.
Display performance
The maximum camera preview frame rate, in frames per second:
| Value | Use |
|---|---|
| Eco | Ideal on battery: less heat, longer battery life. |
| Standard | Smooth and balanced. The right default choice. |
| Unlimited | Without vertical sync: the smoothest, but more demanding. |
Choppy preview on a modest computer? Try Standard rather than Unlimited, and close other apps.
Power saving
Settings › Power › Reduce background activity pauses ambient animations and slows down hardware detection: useful on a laptop running on battery. See Power, sleep and auto-recovery.
Diagnosing a display problem
- Update the graphics card driver from the manufacturer's website.
- Try another Rendering API, then relaunch BoothX.
- As a last resort, disable GPU acceleration.
- If the problem persists, send us your logs (see Logs and reports to support).
