Photobooth
Printing during the event
Automatic printing, copies, per-guest limit, confirmation, borderless printing and 2 × 6-inch strips.
The paper print is still the guests' favorite keepsake. BoothX prints each layout on the active printer, according to the rules on the Printers › Printing page.
Before the event
- Install the manufacturer's driver, then connect the printer (see Install your photo printer's driver).
- In Printers, click Use on your printer: it becomes the active printer. BoothX always prints to it, whatever the system's default printer is.
- Choose the Paper size that matches the ribbon installed.
- Check that the event's template format matches this paper. Otherwise, the editor warns you: “This format does not match the print paper: the photo will be cropped when printed”.
- Print a Test page.
Printing rules
| Setting | Effect |
|---|---|
| Automatic printing | Each layout goes to the printer as soon as it's ready. On by default. |
| Copies per photo | 1 to 4 copies of each layout. Handy for a group of four friends. |
| Limit per guest | Maximum number of prints per session (1, 2, 3, 5 or Unlimited). Protects your paper stock. |
| Confirm before printing | The guest confirms before the print is sent, instead of printing every time. |
| Borderless | The layout fills the whole sheet, edge to edge. On by default. |
| Cut into 2 × 6" strips | On printers that can cut, one 4 × 6" sheet gives two 2 × 6" strips. |
The Cut into 2 × 6" strips setting only appears if the active printer supports it.
Photo strips
The 2 × 6" strip (the “photo booth” format) is prepared in the editor with the Photo strip · 1:3 format. The printer prints two identical strips on one 4 × 6" sheet and separates them: one copy for each guest, without doubling consumption.
During the event
- The printer status is visible on the Dashboard and on the Printers page: Ready, Printing, Job cancelled, Error.
- On the web panel, the booth reports Printer error and Printer offline alerts: you're notified even if you're not nearby.
- If the printer runs out of paper, the layouts stay saved: you can reprint them later from the Storage page (see Reprint and export).
Managing supplies
A dye-sublimation printer uses a matched ribbon and paper, sold for a fixed number of prints: each print uses the same amount of ribbon, whether it's full of color or almost white. To estimate your needs:
- count the number of expected guests × the average number of sessions per guest × the copies per photo;
- keep a spare roll within reach;
- use the Limit per guest if stock is tight.
After changing the ribbon, print another test page.
Nothing prints?
- Check that Automatic printing is on.
- Check that the active printer is the right one (a virtual printer such as “Microsoft Print to PDF” produces no print: its test page is saved to the Desktop).
- See Troubleshooting printers.
