Working offline
What works without internet, what waits for the network to come back, and how to prepare a job without a connection.
BoothX is offline first: a booth has to work in a village hall with no network, a château at the bottom of a valley or a saturated trade-show hall. Internet is a bonus, never a requirement.
What works without internet
Everything that happens on the booth:
- shooting, the editor, printing;
- the photo booth, video booth and game booth modes;
- the local gallery, reprinting, exporting;
- locking, the kiosk, settings;
- the sharing QR code (it's displayed; the gallery will fill up later);
- music.
What waits for the network to come back
| Feature | Offline | When the network comes back |
|---|---|---|
| Online gallery | Photos are kept on the booth. | They're uploaded automatically. |
| Events and designs | Changes are kept. | They're sent to the web panel. |
| Settings profiles | Local settings remain active, changes wait. | They're synced. Switching profiles becomes possible again. |
| Booth status | The panel shows the last known status. | The status is updated. |
| Remote commands | Not received. | Received if they're less than 15 minutes old, otherwise expired. |
| SMS / emails | Not sent. | Depending on the feature, sent or to be retried. |
| Forgotten code by email | Unavailable. | Available. |
The offline session
Your account sign-in remains valid for 7 days without a network. Beyond that, the booth keeps working for everything local, but you'll need to sign in again to get sync back.
Usage while offline
Pay-as-you-go services consume nothing until they're delivered: a photo waiting to be uploaded to the gallery only uses storage once it's uploaded. The app caches the last known state of your quotas and credits to display it offline.
No local feature is ever blocked because your entitlements can't be checked: if the server can't be reached, BoothX lets it through.
Preparing a job without a network
- The day before, with internet: open BoothX and let the booth sync (Sync now button in the cloud status button) to retrieve the events and designs prepared in the panel.
- Check that the event is present on the booth and run a test session.
- On site: everything works locally. The QR code leads to the gallery, which will fill up later; let guests know (“Your photos will be online tomorrow”).
- When you get back: connect the booth to the internet and leave it on while the photos upload. The cloud status button shows the sync progress.
Sharing a phone's connection
If you want the gallery live with no network on site, a phone hotspot is often enough to upload the layouts. Watch your data plan: hundreds of photos add up to several hundred MB.
Checking the connection status
The cloud status button, at the top right of the app, shows Booth connected or Booth offline, the Sync status and the date of the last sync. See Network and connection problems if the booth stays offline even though the internet is working.
