Booth and kiosk
Power, sleep and auto-recovery
Automatic startup, screen always on, USB ports, battery alerts, automatic sleep and relaunch after a crash.
The Settings › Power section keeps the booth available all evening, and makes sure it restarts on its own after an incident.
Startup
Automatic startup
Automatic startup launches BoothX as soon as you log in to your session, before other applications. BoothX asks for confirmation (“Launch BoothX at startup?”); administrator permission may be requested.
This setting is required with full screen when locked (Settings › Kiosk): it's what allows the booth to come back locked after a power cut.
Stay on
Keep the screen and computer on
Prevents the computer and the screen from going to sleep during events. Essential: without it, the screen may turn off between two guests.
If the system refuses the request, BoothX tells you: check the system's power settings (power mode, company policy).
Keep USB ports powered
Turns off Windows USB selective suspend. This setting is vital for cameras and printers: without it, Windows can cut power to an idle USB port and the camera “disappears” in the middle of the evening.
Battery
These settings apply to laptops. Without a battery: “No battery detected”.
Low battery alerts
BoothX shows its own alerts, instead of the system notifications (which could appear on the guest screen):
- Alert threshold: the percentage at which the alert appears;
- Reminder: a new alert every N% (for example every 5%).
The current status is displayed: “On battery: 64%” or “Plugged in: 100%”.
Automatic sleep
Preserves the computer's battery by putting it to sleep below a certain level (Sleep at). Sleep is canceled if you plug the power back in.
Reduce background activity
Pauses ambient animations and slows down hardware detection. Useful on battery; avoid it if you often plug and unplug hardware.
Survival: auto-recovery
Auto-recovery: a watchdog process runs in the background and relaunches BoothX if it crashes or freezes for more than 90 seconds. The status is displayed: Status: Active, Starting… or Inactive.
On fatal error: BoothX is relaunched automatically, already locked if full screen when locked is on. To avoid loops, there is at most one restart every 30 minutes.
After a relaunch, check that the event has restarted properly and relaunch it if needed (booth code, then Launch). Photos already taken are kept: they are saved to disk at each session.
Restart
At the bottom of the settings:
- Relaunch BoothX: closes and relaunches the app (needed after some graphics settings);
- Restart the computer.
Remotely, the web panel's Restart the software command does the same as Relaunch BoothX (see Remote commands).
