Events
Launch, pause and stop an event
The “Before you start” window, the exit gesture, running the event on a second screen and stopping it remotely.
Launching an event switches the booth to guest mode: the event screens are shown in locked full screen, with no exit button, and guests can take their photos on their own.
Launch
Three ways to launch the selected event:
- the Launch button on the event's page;
- the Launch button in the selected event bar;
- the
Ctrl+Ashortcut (⌘Aon Mac).
The “Before you start” window
Before launching, BoothX shows a reminder:
- with a single screen: “The booth switches to locked fullscreen: guests only see the event screens, with no exit button.”;
- with two screens: the guest screen switches to locked full screen, and the screen you are working on stays available to you.
The window also shows the gesture to perform to reach the unlock page, with an animation. If no code is set for the booth, a warning appears: anyone who knows the gesture will be able to leave the event. Set a code in Settings › Kiosk (see PIN or pattern lock).
Click Launch to start, or Cancel.
You can turn this reminder off in Settings › Kiosk › “Before you start” popup once you know the gesture.
During the event
- The app's keyboard shortcuts are disabled.
- The camera only turns on its preview when needed, to spare the camera body.
- If the camera disconnects, the guest screen shows “Please wait, the camera is reconnecting.” and BoothX tries to reopen the session automatically.
- If a photo fails, BoothX retries once, then shows “The photo could not be taken. Try again in a moment.”
- Photos are saved to the event folder at each session, even without a network.
On the keyboard, Space or Enter advances the current screen (for example to start a session), which lets you use a wireless trigger or a big USB button that sends one of these keys.
Leave the event
- Perform the exit gesture: swipe from the colored area to the ring. On the keyboard, press
Esc. - Enter the PIN, draw the pattern, or enter the event password if it has one.
- The event stops and you return to the app.
With no code set, the gesture alone is enough to leave the event.
The gesture itself is chosen in Settings › Kiosk › Event unlock gesture.
Event on a second screen
When the event is running on the guest screen, your screen shows a Running · screen 2 status badge. It offers:
- Move to this screen: move the event to the screen you are on;
- Duplicate screens: show the same image everywhere;
- Screen settings: open the screen assignment;
- Stop the event.
If the guest screen is unplugged, the event switches to Paused. Plug it back in and choose Resume on screen 2 or Resume on this screen.
See Use multiple screens.
Stop remotely
From the web panel, on the My booths › your booth › Remote commands page, the Stop the event command makes the booth leave the event and return to its home screen. A session in progress is interrupted. See Remote commands.
Frequently asked questions
Can guests leave the event? Not without the gesture, and not at all if a code is set. To go further (system shortcuts, USB drives, cursor), see Kiosk mode and security.
Can I change the design during the event? You can change it from your screen if you have two, or from the web panel. To be sure guests see the new version, stop and relaunch the event: the design is loaded at launch.
