Frequently asked questions
FAQ: BoothX, account and equipment
Short answers to the questions we're asked most about BoothX, the account, pricing and equipment.
BoothX
Is BoothX really free?
Yes, for everything that runs on the booth: shooting, editor, printing, photobooth, videobooth, game booth, local gallery. Only services that use our servers (cloud galleries, sharing, SMS, emails, AI) are paid on a pay-as-you-go basis, with a free quota. See Free forever or pay-as-you-go.
Do I need internet to use BoothX?
No. Internet is used for the online gallery, syncing with the web panel and remote control. Everything else works offline. See Offline operation.
Which systems does BoothX run on?
Windows 10 (64-bit) and 11, macOS 12 and later (Apple Silicon and Intel), Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 39 and later. See Install BoothX.
What languages is the app available in?
French and English. The help center is in French.
Can I install BoothX on several computers?
Yes. Each computer corresponds to a booth in your account. A given booth can only be used on one computer at a time: selecting it on a new computer disconnects it from the old one.
Account
Do I need an account?
Not to take photos and print. An account is required to link the booth, sync your events, publish online galleries, and use settings profiles and remote control.
How do I sign in without a password?
BoothX uses sign-in with a code sent by email, Google or Apple. There's no password to remember. See Sign in and link the booth.
What's the difference between Free, Pro and Ultra?
The Pro plan allows up to 100 events (20 on Free) and 50 AI designs per day (5 on Free), gives access to Pro templates and new collections and to video backgrounds on the lock screen, and lets you hide the logo and the theme picker on the lock screen. Ultra includes everything in Pro, with 500 events, 250 AI designs per day and 250 GB of storage (50 GB on Free and Pro); a Pro subscriber upgrades to Ultra from the shop. Prices are at shop.boothx.org/plans.
I can't sign in anymore.
See Network and connection problems.
Equipment
Which camera should I choose?
A Canon EOS camera for the best quality; a USB webcam to get started or for the videobooth. See The Cameras page and boothx.org/compatibility/cameras.
Are Nikon, Sony or Fujifilm cameras supported?
Not for USB control. BoothX controls Canon EOS cameras through Canon's SDK, and all USB webcams.
Which printer should I choose?
A dye-sublimation photo printer (DNP, Mitsubishi, Citizen, HiTi, Sinfonia, Kodak, Canon SELPHY): fast, prints are dry immediately, and the cost per print stays under control. See boothx.org/compatibility/printers.
Can I use an office printer?
Yes, any printer installed on the system can print, in A4, A5 or A6 sizes. It will be slower and cost more per print than a dye-sublimation printer: BoothX flags it as “occasional use”.
Do I need a touchscreen?
It's recommended for a self-service booth, but not required: guests can also start a session with a big USB button (trigger) that sends the Space or Enter key. See Keyboard shortcuts.
What computer specs do I need?
A 4-core processor, 8 GB of memory and 2 GB of disk space (plus your photos). An SSD and a recent graphics card make the preview smoother.
Data
Where are my photos?
On the booth's computer, in each event's folder (Storage › Open folder), and in the online gallery if it is enabled. See The Storage page.
Are my photos sent without my consent?
No. Photos only leave the booth for the online gallery of a booth linked to your account.
What happens if I uninstall BoothX?
The data folder (events, photos, settings) is kept. Delete it manually if you want to erase everything, after backing it up.
