Tutorial: create a print template step by step
From a blank page to the print: format, photo layout, title, decoration, checks and test page.
This tutorial builds a wedding template in 4 × 6" portrait format, with three photos, the couple's first names and the date. Allow about fifteen minutes.
1. Prepare
- Create the event and select it.
- In Printers, choose the printer and the 4 × 6" Paper size: the editor will only offer compatible formats.
- Open the Editor, Templates workspace.
2. Choose the format
With nothing selected, open Template format in the properties bar and choose 4×6 print · 2:3 in portrait. The editor shows “Print paper · 4 × 6"”: the format matches.
3. Place the photos
- Open Photobooth in the rail.
- The template contains one slot: click Add a slot twice to get three.
- In Layouts, choose Column: the three photos stack up.
- Adjust the size of the slots to leave a free band at the bottom for the text.
When printing, each session will take three photos, one per slot.
4. Style the photos
In Photo style:
- Shape: rectangle with slightly rounded corners;
- Filter: Natural (or Black and white for an elegant look);
- Frame: White frame, thin;
- Fill: the photos cover the whole slot.
Turn on Preview with photos to judge the result with a Sample photo.
5. The background
With nothing selected, set the Background: a soft ivory or sage green shows off the photos. Avoid pure white, which looks “empty” when printed, and very saturated backgrounds.
6. The text
- Open Text, then Add a heading: type “Julie & Thomas”.
- Choose a handwritten font in Fonts (search for “script”).
- Add a subheading: the date, in a simple, smaller font.
- Center both texts (Center on the page) in the bottom band.
Use two fonts at most: one for the title, one for the rest.
7. Decoration
Open Elements, search for “flower” or “heart”, and add one or two discreet icons near the title. Lower their Opacity if they draw too much attention. You can also Import an SVG: the monogram from the wedding invitation, for example.
Lock (Ctrl+L) finished elements so you don't move them by mistake.
8. Check
- Margins: nothing important within 5 mm of the edge. The printer trims a little, especially in Borderless.
- Layers: check that no element is hidden behind a photo (the 3D layer view helps).
- Preview (
F5): look at the template full screen.
9. Print a test page
Click Print a test page of this template in the top bar. On the print, check:
- that nothing is cut off;
- that the background and text colors are accurate (paper is less bright than the screen);
- that the text is readable at arm's length.
10. Variation: the photo strip
For a 2 × 6" strip, duplicate the template (Duplicate), switch to the Photo strip · 1:3 format, keep the Column layout and reduce the text. Turn on Cut into 2 × 6" strips on the Printers page if your printer cuts: each sheet will give two strips.
