Launcher and modes
Setting up a multi-mode event from A to Z
Where each mode is configured, which settings belong to the event or to the booth, and a method for preparing an event that combines several activities.
New platform being rolled out. Depending on your version of BoothX, some modes (mosaic, digital guestbook, photo wall) or some settings may not be available yet.
An event can offer several activities: photo booth, video booth, game booth, mosaic, digital guestbook, photo wall. Each mode has its own settings, and they aren't all in the same place. This article maps them all out, then suggests a preparation method.
Event settings or booth settings?
Two families of settings coexist:
- event settings: they travel with the event (modes offered, design, game content, guestbook…);
- booth settings: they depend on the installed hardware (camera, printer, screens) and apply to all events.
| Setting | Belongs to | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Modes offered, default mode | Event | Event page, modes section. |
| Screen design and templates | Event | Editor. |
| Questions, prizes, contests | Event | Games page. |
| Mosaic target image and grid | Event | Mosaic area. |
| Guestbook steps and layout | Event | Guestbook area. |
| Online gallery, email / SMS sharing | Event | Event page, sharing section. |
| Lock (PIN, pattern) | Event | Event page. |
| Camera, shooting (countdown, delay) | Booth | Cameras page. |
| Webcam, microphone, video length | Booth | Videos › Settings page. |
| Printer, paper size, automatic printing | Booth | Printers page. |
| Screens (guests, admin, wall) | Booth | Settings › Screens. |
| Music and per-mode background music | Booth | Music page. |
| Kiosk, power, startup | Booth | Settings. |
Settings profiles let you switch from one booth configuration to another in a single step. See Synced settings profiles.
Hardware required per mode
| Mode | Required | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Photo booth | Camera or webcam | Printer |
| Video booth | Webcam | Microphone |
| Game booth | Touch screen | Printer (prize tickets) |
| Mosaic | Camera or webcam, printer | Second screen (progress) |
| Digital guestbook | Touch screen | Stylus, camera (selfie) |
| Photo wall | Second screen | — |
A mode whose required hardware is missing is hidden from the guests' choice screen. See The launcher: choosing a mode.
Combinations that work
| Event | Modes | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Wedding | Photo booth + guestbook (digital or video) + photo wall | Keepsakes for the couple, entertainment for everyone. |
| Corporate party | Photo booth + logo mosaic + photo wall | Collective mural, brand image. |
| Trade show | Game booth + photo booth | Draw people in, collect contacts, give away a photo. |
| Birthday | Photo booth (GIF, burst) + quiz | Fun and fast. |
Beyond three modes on the choice screen, guests hesitate. The photo wall, which isn't played on the guest screen, doesn't count toward this limit.
A seven-step method
- Create the event and check the modes offered; choose the default mode. See Multi-mode event.
- Connect the hardware and check in the launcher that each mode is Available.
- Set up the booth: camera, printer, screens (assign the wall screen if there is one), music.
- Set up each mode in its own area: game content, target image, guestbook, photo booth formats.
- Dress up the screens in the editor, including the mode choice screen: short labels, in the imperative.
- Decide on sharing: QR code only, or email / SMS (pay-as-you-go services). See Estimating the cost of an event.
- Test each mode end to end, then reset whatever needs resetting (scores, test grid, test pages).
Data and statistics
All guest creations (photos, videos, pages, tiles, games played) are attached to the same event. The Storage page filters them by type, and the statistics add up the modes and break them down. See The Dashboard statistics step by step.
During the event
- Switching from one mode to another is done by the guest, on the choice screen; you have nothing to do.
- A change to a booth setting (for example video length) applies to the next session, never to a session in progress.
- If a piece of hardware is unplugged, its mode disappears from the choice screen and comes back when it's plugged back in.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have two different camera settings for the photo booth and the guestbook? The camera and its settings belong to the booth. The guestbook selfie uses the booth's camera with its own capture steps.
Does an event setting changed in the web panel reach the booth? Synced information (including the event's modes) arrives at the next sync. See Remote commands and sync.
Do I need to relaunch the event after changing the modes? Yes, so that the choice screen reflects the new modes.
