Digital guestbook
The digital guestbook
A written message, a signature and a selfie from each guest, gathered in a guestbook exported as a PDF: how it works, equipment and setup.
Mode being rolled out. The digital guestbook is gradually arriving in BoothX releases. Depending on your version, the screens and settings may differ from this description, or the mode may appear as “Soon” in the launcher.
The digital guestbook replaces the traditional book left on a table. On the booth's touchscreen, each guest:
- writes a message to the newlyweds, the guest of honor or the company;
- signs with a finger or a stylus;
- takes a selfie to go with their note.
At the end of the event, BoothX assembles all the pages into a PDF guestbook, ready to be printed, bound or sent.
The guestbook runs entirely on the booth: it is free, with no account and no internet connection needed, including the PDF export.
Digital or video guestbook?
BoothX offers two guestbooks, which can be used side by side:
| Digital guestbook | Video guestbook (videobooth) | |
|---|---|---|
| The guest leaves | A written message, a signature, a selfie. | A filmed message with sound. |
| For whom | Shy guests who prefer to write. | Guests who are comfortable on camera. |
| The keepsake | A PDF to print and bind. | Videos to watch back to back. |
| Equipment | Touchscreen (stylus recommended), camera for the selfie. | Webcam and microphone. |
See The videobooth: a video guestbook.
Equipment
- A touchscreen: essential for writing and signing. A medium-sized screen, tilted like a lectern, is the most comfortable.
- A stylus (recommended): signatures and handwriting look much better. Tether it to the booth.
- An on-screen keyboard or a real keyboard: for typed messages. The BoothX on-screen keyboard appears automatically.
- A camera for the selfie: the booth's webcam or camera. Without a camera, the selfie is simply skipped.
- A printer (optional): to print a keepsake card for the guest, depending on your settings.
Open the guestbook
The guestbook opens from the launcher (Guestbook card). Like the other modes, it works on the selected event: the pages belong to that event. It can be the event's only mode or be added to the photobooth in a multi-mode event.
Setup
- Choose the steps offered to the guest: message, signature, selfie. You can make some of them optional.
- Customize the book's title (“Léa & Hugo's guestbook”), the instructions and the page layout.
- Write a short invitation on the welcome screen: “Leave us a little note!”.
- Test a complete page, then delete it.
- Lock the booth so nobody leaves the mode (see Locking with a PIN or pattern).
Set up the guestbook corner
- Height: the screen at bar-table height, tilted. People write better standing up, with the screen slightly angled.
- Light: soft lighting from the front for the selfie.
- Quiet: a spot a little away from the dance floor; writing takes a bit of concentration.
- Decoration: a nice “Guestbook” sign, flowers, a frame. Guests should be able to spot the activity from afar.
Personal data
Messages, signatures and selfies stay on the booth. They are only sent online if you turn on sharing yourself. A signature is personal data: tell guests how the guestbook will be used (a keepsake given to the hosts) on the welcome screen. See What stays on the booth, what goes online.
Frequently asked questions
Does the guestbook cost anything? No. Writing, signing, selfies and PDF export are free and offline.
Can a guest come back and edit their page? No: a submitted page is saved. The organizer can, however, delete a page.
What happens if the power goes out? Each page is saved as soon as it is submitted. On restart, the guestbook resumes with all the pages already written (see Power, sleep and auto-recovery).
