Locking with a PIN or pattern
Protect the booth and the exit from events, lock on demand, and regain access if you forget your code.
Locking protects your settings and prevents guests from leaving an event. It's configured in Settings › Kiosk › Security and lock.
Turn on the lock
- Open Settings › Kiosk.
- Turn on Booth lock (“Unlock required to access the settings”).
- Choose the Method:
- PIN: a 4-digit code;
- Pattern: a line connecting dots on a grid, as on a phone. You must connect a minimum number of dots.
- Enter the code (or draw the pattern), then confirm it.
The code is requested:
- when BoothX starts;
- when the booth is locked;
- to leave an event.
The Dashboard shows the active method in the Lock card.
Change or turn off the code
In Settings › Kiosk, click Change on the method's card. BoothX first asks for the current code (“Enter the current PIN code to continue”), then the new one, twice. To turn off the lock, you also need the current code.
If the two entries don't match: “The codes don't match, try again”.
Lock the booth on demand
The Lock the booth button (title bar or sidebar) immediately shows the Application locked screen. Handy for stepping away for a few minutes without closing BoothX.
You can also lock the booth remotely from the web panel (Lock the booth command). An event in progress is stopped first. The command is refused if no code is set on the booth.
Lock screen options
Also in Settings › Kiosk:
- Full screen when locked: the lock screen takes up the whole screen. This option also turns on automatic startup: after a power cut, sleep or a session unlock, BoothX resumes locked in full screen;
- Theme choice on the lock screen: shows the theme picker in the title bar. Hiding it is reserved for the Pro and Ultra plans;
- Logo on the lock screen: shows the BoothX logo. Hiding it is reserved for the Pro and Ultra plans;
- Owner's phone: an emergency contact number shown to the public on the lock screen, with a QR code to call it.
The lock screen background during an event (photo or video) is set on the event page, in the Lock screen section.
Too many attempts
After several wrong codes, entry is blocked for a few seconds and BoothX shows the time remaining (“Too many attempts. Try again in … s”). The delay protects against random guessing.
Forgotten code
On the unlock screen, tap Forgot your code? (or Forgot your pattern?). Two options:
- QR code: shows the owner's number with a QR code to scan to call them. Useful for a rental company whose client needs help;
- Code by email: BoothX sends a one-time code to the owner account's email address. Enter it, then choose a new PIN and confirm it.
The code by email requires the booth to be linked to an account and connected to the internet. Offline, contact the owner, or unlock the booth remotely from the web panel as soon as it's back on the network (Unlock the booth command).
Best practices
- Choose a code you don't share with your clients; change it if a client has seen it.
- Turn on Block system shortcuts so that
Alt+Tabor the Windows key can't be used to get around the screen (see Kiosk mode and security). - Fill in the Owner's phone if the booth is rented out without a host.
