Launcher and modes
The launcher: choose a mode
BoothX is becoming a multi-mode platform. The launcher presents each mode, its status and the equipment it requires.
New platform rolling out. The launcher and the new modes are arriving gradually in BoothX releases. Depending on your version, some screens may still differ from this description.
BoothX is no longer just a photobooth: it's a platform for event booths. Each activity is a mode, and the launcher is the page where you choose them.
The modes
| Mode | What guests do | Equipment |
|---|---|---|
| Photobooth | Photos, a printed layout and a QR code to get them. | Camera or webcam; printer recommended. |
| Videobooth | A video message for the couple's or the company's guestbook. | Webcam; microphone recommended. |
| Game booth | A quiz, a prize wheel or a contest, with prizes to win. | Touchscreen; printer recommended for prize vouchers. |
| Mosaic | A large mural made of their photos, tile by tile. | Camera or webcam, printer; second screen recommended. |
| Digital guestbook | A written message, a signature and a selfie, gathered in a PDF guestbook. | Touchscreen; stylus and camera recommended. |
| Live photo wall | Their photos shown large on a screen in the venue, with moderation. | A second screen. |
The photobooth also offers new formats: GIF, boomerang, burst and filters. See Photobooth capture formats.
The mosaic, the digital guestbook and the photo wall are arriving gradually: depending on your version, they may appear as Coming soon in the launcher. Other modes (karaoke, for example) are announced the same way, to give you visibility. To choose, see Which modes for which event?.
The photobooth remains the original mode: nothing has been removed. The Events, Editor, Cameras, Printers and Storage pages are used by every mode.
Open the launcher
The launcher opens from the Modes entry in the sidebar. It shows one card per mode, in one column on a small screen and in two or three columns on a large screen. Everything works by touch or keyboard (Tab to move from one card to the next, Enter to open).
At the top, the Resume button reopens the last mode used, right at your fingertips. BoothX remembers it from one session to the next.
Each mode's status
Each card shows a status:
- Available: the mode is ready, all the required equipment is connected;
- In use: this is the mode you are currently using;
- Preview: the mode works but is still in an early-access phase; your feedback is welcome;
- Coming soon: the mode is announced but not open yet;
- Requires: …: a required piece of equipment is missing (for example “Requires: webcam”). The mode can't open until it is connected.
The card also flags missing recommended equipment (for example a printer for the prize wheel): the mode still opens, but one feature will be unavailable.
The status updates on its own when you plug in or unplug a camera or a printer, or when the internet connection changes.
Free or pay-as-you-go
Modes that run entirely on the booth are free forever, with no account and no network: photobooth, videobooth, game booth, mosaic, digital guestbook, photo wall on a second screen, local gallery. A card may indicate that a mode also uses online services billed on a pay-as-you-go basis (cloud gallery, sending by SMS or email, AI effects).
At the bottom of the launcher, a panel summarizes your usage for the period and your credits. See Free forever or pay-as-you-go.
Open a mode
Tap an Available card: BoothX opens the mode's entry page (for example the Events page for the photobooth, the Videobooth page for the video guestbook). To return to the launcher, use the Modes entry in the sidebar.
If you tap a mode that can't open, BoothX explains why (missing equipment, mode not available yet) instead of opening a blank page.
What about during an event?
The launcher is for you, the operator. Guests never see it. To offer several modes to guests during the same event, see Multi-mode event and Set up a multi-mode event from A to Z.
