Troubleshooting
Screen, touch and display issues
Black screen, interface too small or too large, touch on the wrong screen, orientation, and second screen not detected.
The interface is too small or too large
Use the application zoom: Ctrl++ to enlarge, Ctrl+- to shrink, Ctrl+0 to return to 100%, or Settings › Display › Application zoom (80 to 200%). Zoom only affects BoothX and applies immediately.
On a large touchscreen, 125 to 150% makes buttons easier to tap.
The screen stays black or flickers
This is most often a graphics driver problem:
- update the graphics card driver from the manufacturer's website;
- in Settings › Performance, try another Rendering API, then Relaunch BoothX;
- as a last resort, turn off GPU acceleration (software rendering) and relaunch.
If the chosen API can't start, BoothX automatically falls back to automatic mode at the next startup and tells you so.
See Performance: GPU, rendering and preview smoothness.
Touch doesn't work
- Is the screen's USB touch cable plugged in? The video cable alone shows the image but doesn't transmit touch.
- Does the system see the touchscreen? Settings › Input shows whether it was detected (“Detected touch screen”).
- Try another USB port, without a hub.
Touch acts on the wrong screen
With two screens, the system may map touch to the wrong screen. On Windows: Control Panel › Tablet PC Settings › Setup, then tap the touchscreen when Windows asks. After rotating a screen, calibrate again if needed.
The virtual keyboard doesn't appear (or appears when it shouldn't)
Settings › Input › Keyboard:
- Virtual keyboard to force it on a touch booth;
- Physical keyboard to never show it;
- by default, it appears when no keyboard is connected. A plugged-in wireless keyboard receiver is enough to make the system think a keyboard is present: unplug it or force the virtual keyboard.
The second screen isn't used
- Check that it's detected: Settings › Screens › Identify shows a number on each screen.
- Check that the system displays it in Extend mode (not Duplicate), unless you chose Duplicated screens in BoothX.
- Check Event screen: Guest screen to open the event on the second screen.
The image is upside down or sideways
Set the screen's Orientation in Settings › Screens: landscape or portrait, without touching the system settings. If nothing is confirmed, the previous orientation comes back automatically after a few seconds.
The cursor stays in the middle of the screen
Turn on Ghost cursor (Settings › Kiosk): the mouse disappears after a few seconds without movement. On a booth without a mouse, choose No mouse in Settings › Input.
System notifications appear on the guest screen
- Turn on the system's Do not disturb / Focus assist mode during the event.
- Let BoothX handle battery alerts (Settings › Power › Low battery alerts): they replace the system's.
